BIRGUNJ, Oct. 9, 2026 - As part of a coordinated drive to equip marginalized youth with future-ready skills, the consortium behind the European Union-funded Creating Opportunities for Youth in the Digital Economy (CODE) project officially launched an intensive, six-day intermediate training program on "Digital Marketing: Social Media Marketing and Content Creation" today at South City College of Science and Technology in Vishwa, Birgunj. The training represents a direct operational intervention by the CODE consortium-led by Swisscontact alongside partners Restless Development Nepal and the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN). Running from 2026 to 2028 across Madhesh Province (Birgunj, Jitpur Simara, and Parsagadhi) and Gandaki Province (Pokhara, Rupa, and Madi), the consortium's core mandate is to empower young women and men from historically underrepresented backgrounds to participate actively and competitively in Nepal's evolving digital landscape. Delivered on the ground in close institutional alignment with Birgunj Metropolitan City, Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City, and Parsagadhi Municipality, this intermediate cohort gathers 25 selected youths representing Dalit, Janjati, Madheshi, and Muslim communities.

The core objective of the training is to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real commercial demand.. Across the six-day intensive curriculum, trainers are guiding participants through practical content development, targeted social media campaign strategy, brand storytelling, analytics, and freelance marketplace onboarding. The primary objective established by the consortium is concrete economic transition: ensuring participants complete the program not merely with digital literacy, but as market-ready professionals equipped to land paid agency internships, secure remote freelance contracts, and build independent digital livelihoods. By uniting international development expertise, youth-led community mobilization, and technological innovation, the Swisscontact-Restless Development-RAN consortium is leveraging this training to demonstrate how multi-stakeholder partnerships-spanning local governments, civil society, and private technical providers-can translate digital transformation into direct, inclusive employment opportunities for grassroots youth.

Sima Yadav, Women Development Officer in Jeetpur Simara Sub Metropolitan City stated that “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to participate in this digital marketing and content creation training. These valuable skills will help me promote products and services, explore self-employment opportunities, and develop my entrepreneurial abilities. I sincerely thank the government for providing this opportunity and encouraging all youth to embrace technology and build a brighter future.” Driving Inclusive Growth Through CODE The initiative forms part of the broader CODE project, funded by the European Union and running from 2026 to 2028 across Madhesh Province (Birgunj, Jitpur Simara, and Parsagadhi) and Gandaki Province (Pokhara, Rupa, and Madi). The project is implemented by Swisscontact in partnership with Restless Development Nepal and the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN). CODE focuses on empowering young women and men-with a strong emphasis on women and marginalized demographics-to participate meaningfully in Nepal’s emerging digital economy. By strengthening digital literacy, delivering market-aligned skills, facilitating employment and entrepreneurship pathways, and fostering youth participation in digital governance and policymaking, the project collaborates with municipalities, civil society, schools, and private-sector actors to build an inclusive digital ecosystem that ensures no young person is left behind in Nepal’s digital transformation.
